Obituary for Barbara P. Smith (Pedrie)

Barbara P.  Smith (Pedrie)
Barbara P. Smith, 80, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on November 26, 2016 with her loving family at her side. She was born in Detroit, MI. on February 12, 1936 to the late Vincent J. and Virginia E. Velie Pedrie and was a 1954 graduate of New Hartford High School.
On May 7, 1955 she was united in marriage with Gilbert Smith in St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford, a loving union of 29 years until his death on November 1, 1984.
Barbara began her working career with N.Y. Telephone and after the birth of her daughters, went to work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company from where she retired.
She also worked for the Mount Markham school district as both a playground aide and substitute teacher as well as for the Clayville Library.
Barbara was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons in law; Penny and Russell Wiediger of Sauquoit and Kathy and Tom Kotary of Liverpool, her five grandchildren; Eric Wiediger, Kristin Wiediger and her fiancé Daniel Reid, Courtney Smith, Brittany Kotary and Patrick Kotary and her three great-grandchildren; Alanna Wiediger, Nicholas Wiediger and Joseph Wiediger.
She was predeceased by her daughters; Catherine Ann Smith in 1957 and Linda M. Smith in 2010 and her brother; Vincent Pedrie in 1979.
Barbara’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 29 at 1:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1736 Burrstone Rd. in New Hartford. There will be no calling hours.

Her family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. for their care during Barbara’s illness along with her special sister in law; Patricia Hughes for the many cups of coffee and many visits and support offered to her daughters and her family.
A heartfelt thank you also goes out to Luann Alsheimer for her delicious meals, her kindness, compassion and love and for making Barbara’s wish to come home come true.
Arrangements are with the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
