Obituary for Merritt M. Smith

Merritt M. Smith 1926-2017

Merritt M. Smith, 91, passed away on September 26, 2017 in the comfort of his home.
He was born on September 18, 1926 in Washington Mills, a son of the late George and Edna Smith and received his education in Sauquoit Schools.
Merritt enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and proudly served his country up to his discharge in 1946.
On October 13, 1945 he was united in marriage with Florence B. Smith, a loving union of 48 years until her death on May 13, 1994.
On November 11, 1994 Merritt and Suzanna Timian were married and together spent many wonderful years at their Florida home at the Holiday Travel Park in Bunnell, FL.
Merritt’s working career began with his employment with Remington Typewriter and later with West End Brewery.
He retired in 1988 as a licensed electrician with the I.B.E.W. Local 43.
Merritt’s memberships included Sauquoit Lodge 150 F&AM, Ziyara Shriners and Valley Stars 217.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Sue, his step daughter; Lisa and John Huebner of Sauquoit, his step-sons; Gifford “Bill” and Barb Timian of Clayville and Jay Timian and Sharon Robinson of Clark Mills, his sister; Marjorie Parsons of Sharon Springs, his brothers; Lewis and Jane Smith of Washington Mills and Kenneth Smith of Sauquoit and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters; Evelyn Owens and Lucille Hoen and his brother; Edwin Smith.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 29 from 11-1 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit with funeral services following immediately at 1:00.
Interment with military honors will be at Sauquoit Valley Cemetery.

His family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care for all of their help, especially Tina, Irene, Jan, Michele and Ann.
