Calvin J. Nicholas, 90, passed away December 2, 2017 at the Masonic Care Community with his family at his side.
He was born on August 22, 1927 in Chadwicks to the late Charles and Grace Schmoltz and was a graduate of Chadwicks High School.
During the Korean Conflict, Cal served in the U.S. Army and on November 6, 1954 was united in marriage with Jacqueline Newell in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks, a loving union of 58 years until her death on November 12, 2012.
Cal was a 44 year employee with N.Y. Telephone, beginning as a lineman and working his way up to management.
His memberships included E.L. Clonan Post 1000 of the American Legion and the Telephone Pioneers.
Cal is survived by his daughters; Terri Wadsworth and Kelli Owens, his son and daughter in law; Jeffrey and June Nicholas, his grandchildren; Sarah and Steve Kozak, Samantha Owens and Garrett Owens and his niece; Donna and Joseph Felitto.
He was predeceased by his sister; Shirley Crocetti, his brother; Gilbert Nicholas and his nephew; James Newell.
Cal’s celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 18 at 7:00 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit. His family will receive visitors from 5:00 until the time of the service.
