Robert M. Pendleton 1940-2017

Robert M. Pendleton, age 77, of New Hartford, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 with family at his side. He was born in Ithaca, NY on July 31,1940, a son of the late Claude and Miriam (Frost) Pendleton.
He was raised in Forest Home in Ithaca, NY. On April 2, 1966, he was united in marriage with Carolyn Wiley at Forest Home Chapel in Ithaca, NY. The couple shared a union of over fifty years. She predeceased him in February, 2017.
Prior to his retirement, Robert held a position at Oneida County BOCES where he taught small engine repair and agricultural mechanics. An educator of 37 years, Robert was proud of his time in the classroom and enjoyed keeping track of his students successes beyond high school. Prior to teaching, Robert served in the US Army as a Military Policeman and member of the Honor Guard. He served from 1963 - 1965, which included a tour of duty in Germany. Robert was also a graduate of Cornell University. He enjoyed spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren - and loved working on his Ford Model A purchased when he was just 16 years old. He also enjoyed camping, watching his children and granchildren’s sporting events, Syracuse basketball and Yankees baseball.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Kathryn Janet and Simon Prindle of Kingston, NY, Daniel T. and Dawn Pendleton of Warren, ME, Christopher A. and Christen Pendleton of Dallas, GA, and Matthew R. and Jocelyn Pendleton of Jamesport, NY. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Amanda Prindle, Erica Prindle, Brittany Pendleton, Andrew Pendleton, Eric Pendleton, Aleah Prindle, Amber Pendleton, Everett Prindle, and Marilla Pendleton; one brother and a sister-in-law, John Pendleton of FL and June Pendleton of NY. Other family includes Marjorie and Richard Dearborn of ME, Sandra Berry of IN, Eva Muldoon of MA, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and in-laws.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 2pm - 5pm at Smith Funeral Home in Sauquoit, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Robert’s memory to The Stony Brook Foundation, Stony Brook Cancer Center, Health Sciences Tower Level 4 Rm 170B, Stony Brook, NY 11794-8430 with Medical Oncology in the memo.
