Dorothy M. O'Neil (Bostwick)
Dorothy M. O’Neil 1924-2018
Sauquoit

Dorothy M. O’Neil, 94, passed away on January 19, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare. She was born on January 1, 1924 in Ilion, N.Y., the daughter of the late Edgar and Lydia Mead Bostwick and was a graduate of Whitesboro schools.
On August 14, 1945, she was united in marriage with William J. O’Neil in Highland Baptist Chruch in Utica, a loving union of 32 years until his death on October 29, 1977.
During WWII, Dorothy was employed by Savage Arms in Utica and later was the manager of Z-Line Laundromat in the New Hartford Shopping Center.
Through Mohawk Valley Community Action, she gave her time as a volunteer with the Head Start Program as a foster grandparent at Sauquoit Valley Central School. Dorothy also volunteered her time at the Cosmopolitan Center and ran a Bible Club out of her home.
She possessed a strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in New Hartford.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy will forever remain in the hearts of her family: her daughters, Carol Crawley of Franklin, TN and Sharon and Logan Corman of Sauquoit, her sons, Daniel and Louise O’Neil of Severna Park, MD., Robert O’Neil of Baton Rouge, LA. And John and Donna O’Neil of Clinton, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her “sister-cousin” Ruth Yaehrling.
Dorothy’s life will be celebrated on Friday, January 26 at 10:00 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 9501 Weston Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
Please consider donations in Dorothy’s memory to the Utica Rescue Mission, 293 Genesee St. Utica, NY 13501. (www.uticamission.org).
Her family would like to thank Rev. Walt Wharram and his wife Patty, Dr. Gordon Fung as well as the home health aides from the Presbyterian Home and Horizon Health Care for their care and compassion.
